Woolworths dumps caged eggs!

Woolworths has confirmed it will be the first major supermarket chain to phase out all caged eggs sold in their stores by 2018. The decision came when Amineh Mardirossian noticed consumer trends were changing drastically over the past 5 years, consumers are opting for barn and free-range produce as opposed to the slightly cheaper caged option. Woolworths has recently partnered with celebrity chef Jamie Oliver whom they plan to introduce more significant changes with.

With over 12 million hens still confined in cages and 500 million chickens raised for meat each year in Australia, this movement has been applauded by animal rights groups such as Animals Australia. “Hens have been paying a terrible price for cheaper eggs” said Animals Australia campaign director Lyn White.
