3,750 lives can be changed

When we rescued her, she was desperate to protect her two pups from being crushed to death under the pile of dogs crammed into a wire cage, destined for a slaughterhouse in the Philippines.

All of the dogs were in bad shape when we intercepted the truck under the cover of night — weak from no food and water for days — but the puppies had it the worst. With bald patches among their flea-infested fur, bellies swollen with parasites, and gums pale from dehydration, they were scared and they never strayed from their mother.

Dogs who end up victims of Asia’s dog meat trade — like this mother and her babies — suffer beyond belief. But you can help stop the cruelty.

We kicked off our campaign last week with a matching gift, thanks to a generous donor. We were so inspired by this outpouring that we know we can do even better — and help even more dogs. That’s why our new goal is to raise £47,000 (GBP) for Our Protect Street Dogs campaign. Donate today and help us make a difference for 3,750 more dogs.

Since receiving care, the puppies and their mother are on a fast track to recovery. Their fur is healing, they’ve gained weight, they’ve been sterilized and vaccinated, and most importantly, they’ve been given a second chance and will soon be put up for adoption.

SDD ThermometerYour donation will help us fight the dog meat trade and give street dogs around the world a better life. Here’s some of the progress we’ve made. Will you help us do even more for street dogs by donating today?

  • Sterilized and vaccinated more than 45,000 animals in Bhutan, making it the first country in Asia to humanely manage its street dog population.
  • Partnered with other organizations to rescue dogs in the Philippines that were bound for slaughter and effectively lowered the scale of this year’s Yulin dog meat event.
  • Initiated a joint rabies education/street dog welfare project, with a major grant from the Tata Trusts, involving a consortium of Indian groups, HSI and the Global Alliance for Rabies Control. This project has already led to more humane approaches for catching and monitoring street dog welfare.

Together we could change the lives for at least another 3,750 dogs. Please donate today and help end the suffering of street dogs around the world.
