Help Keep Animals In Olympic Cities Safe

February 20, 2014 Leave a comment Go to comments

As The Winter Olympics continue in Sochi, there have been alarming reports that city officials called for the rounding up and killing of stray dogs–an unnecessary action that has been swiftly and cruelly executed.

While animal rescue organizations and even some Olympic athletes are doing their part to keep these dogs safe, there’s only so much that can be done. We need to set a precedent right now for future Olympic host cities. This type of behavior is unacceptable and cannot happen again.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) needs to condemn these stray dog killings and request that the city government of Sochi cease and desist from this activity immediately. Furthermore, we must demand that the IOC change their Code of Ethics to prohibit the inhumane treatment of animals as part of preparations for an Olympic event.

Totally agree. The practice of killing stray dogs happens every year in Russia, but at least it came to the attention of the world this year.
This act of cruelty must stop!
