We’re so close in our campaign efforts to protect Alaska’s Bristol Bay – home to the most productive wild salmon fishery on Earth. I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am to see nearly a decade of work come together to protect this phenomenal salmon fishery and the communities and wildlife that it supports!
In July, EPA announced its plan to protect the fishery by restricting mine waste disposal from the proposed Pebble Mine, stating that the proposed Pebble Mine would “cause irreversible damage to one of the world’s last intact salmon ecosystems!”
EPA is taking public comment on its plan until Sept. 19th. This is the very last comment period. It’s crucial that the EPA hear from you, so it will finalize the plan and put crucial protections in place to protect the world’s greatest wild salmon runs.
Earthworks continues to put “our all” into this effort:
First, we filed an amicus brief on August 4th to support the EPA against a lawsuit by Pebble, challenging the EPA’s authority to restrict mine waste dumping.
Then, Earthworks’ staff travelled to Anchorage and Bristol Bay to testify at the EPA’s public hearings from August 12-15.
Now, we’re asking for your help in sending as many comments as possible in support of Bristol Bay. Add your voice today!
