John Stewart pans Christie’s veto of sow crate bill

December 3, 2014 Leave a comment Go to comments

As had been widely predicted, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie vetoed a ban on sow gestation crates that had passed his legislature with overwhelming bipartisan support, and, according to polls, with the support of over ninety percent of his constituents. But clearly Iowa, so important for presidential hopefuls, is more important to Christie than his own state — the governor of Iowa has applauded the veto.

Christie made the move the day after Thanksgiving, obviously hoping it might go quietly, but Jon Stewart of the Daily Show did not let the event go unnoticed. Stewart’s coverage last night (Monday, December 1) his second segment on the issue (here’s the previous one: http://ow.ly/FgqDc ) is on numerous media websites this morning. I found it first on the NJ.com website here: http://tinyurl.com/lm587bs and am including that page as a good example of the kind of coverage Stewart’s segment has generated.

You can watch the segment at that link and join the spirited discussion underneath. But comments added on the Comedy Central site are more likely to be seen by Stewart and his producers, and it’s important that they know how much their coverage of the issue has been appreciated by viewers. So please watch and comment on the Comedy Central site at http://tinyurl.com/lczkbso

Finally, so many of you are so supportive of my annual turkey rescue. DawnWatch subscribers know that while I love having the turkeys, I do it mostly to generate good media, so I wanted to share with you the local ABC News story, which aired on Thanksgiving Day: http://tinyurl.com/p9ehw32
Positive feedback/comments for this thoroughly turkey-friendly Thanksgiving story would let the producers know that their efforts are appreciated, which would be terrific. You can comment right under the story.
