The things you don’t see on the news

The streets of London came to a standstill yesterday when over 400 people turned out to support Lindsey Garrett and the families of the New Era Estate. 93 families are facing eviction after Westbrook, a US investment firm, bought their homes.
Westbrook plans to evict all the residents and triple the rents. But the families are fighting back to protect the estate that has been their home for generations.
They have 300,000 people already supporting Lindsey’s petition, including Russell Brand.
This week the New York Mayor spoke out against Westbrook and warned “London is experiencing what New York City used to experience”.
The support for Lindsey’s campaign has been incredible but the families of the New Era Estate still have a battle if they are to convince the firm to let them stay.
